Meet the Team: Nelo Martínez, Frontend Engineer at inari

At inari, the drive to innovate starts with the people who turn ideas into products. In our Meet The Team series, we introduce you to the talents behind the tech, and today we’re excited to feature Nelo Martínez, one of our Frontend Engineers.
Nelo didin’t come from the insurance world, but inari’s ambitious technical goals andd collaborative environment made it the right next step. With a love for frontend development and a mindset rooted in curiosity, he’s continuously learning, improving, and helping move our products forward, sprint by sprint.
In this interview, Nelo talks about his day-to-day work, shares great advice for junior developers, and opens up about his love for CrossFit, investing, and the value of learning even from “boring” tasks.
Let’s get to know him better!
1. Tell me about your day-to-day role at inari and what areas of your job at inari you most enjoy?
Like all good developers, we have tasks assigned in a backlog, which we complete and pass the task through its different states, so my day to day is to solve these tasks to complete what we call sprint together with my colleagues, and in between talking to Xavi about videogames.
2. What attracted you to the technology/insurtech sector?
I like frontend development, which can be applied to any sector, and I really like the challenge that inari gives me.
3. What advice would you give to someone looking to start a career in your field?
The best advice is that you have to be very curious and always try to be up to date with the new technologies that are coming out, and not say no to any task no matter how boring it is, you will learn from all of them and you will improve as a developer.
It is also important to surround yourself with people who know more than you or who can contribute, because there are always those, being willing to learn is essential in the world of development.
4. What do you like to do in your free time outside of work?
The typical, being with my family and friends whenever I have time. Doing sport is something I need to do, I’ve been doing it for as long as I can remember, I’ve played, competed and enjoyed many sports, football is the one I’ve played and enjoyed the most, but for several years now I’ve discovered crossfit which is better adapted to the time and life I have now. I have also recently discovered the world of investment and how global stock markets work, the truth is that it is curious and complex at the same time, and I am trying to learn and know how to manage my personal finances better, something that on the other hand you realize that nothing and no one teaches you.
5. Whast’s one surprising fact about you that most people at inari wouldn’t know?
The truth is that I’m boring or I’ve been here too long hahaha, but I don’t think there’s anything that surprises anyone, I’m usually pretty transparent in that sense. I’m reserved with my personal life in general, but if someone asks me I have nothing to hide, but don’t expect me to tell you about my life.
